Chemical characteristics of three species from the family Ericaceae originating from natural sites

Rosłon W., Suchorska-Tropiło K.

The content of polyphenolic compounds in leaves in populations of red whortleberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea L.), bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus L.) and bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (L.) Sprengel) growing wild in Mazury and Podlasie were compared.
The highest content of arbutin and tannins was characteristic for bilberry leaves, the highest content of polyphenolic acids was characteristic for bilberry and flavonoids for red whortleberry. Significantly higher content of arbutin and tannins was characteristic for war materials collected in autumn.

Key words: ericaceae family, red whortleberry, bilberry, bearberry, arbutin, tannins, polyphenolic acids, flavonoids
